What I Specialize In:
I work with children and adults who have learning disorders. I specialize in treating dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, and executive functioning disorders, which inhibit an individual’s ability to receive, process, store, respond to, and communicate information.
Most people with learning disorders have average to above-average intelligence, but often process information differently than others, leading to issues in the classroom and workplace.
Attentional difficulties manifest in a variety of academic, social, and occupational presentations. They can overlap with other language processing and mood difficulties, including anxiety.
I work compassionately with individuals in these categories, offering evaluation, lending clarity, and serving as an advocate in order to make their lives better.
My Background
I am a licensed psychologist practicing for more than 21 years. I focus on advocating for children and have extensive experience testing students and providing a variety of therapies to students and their families. I hold two master’s degrees and a Doctorate of Clinical Psychology from Wheaton College (1999). I worked as a psychologist and was the Director of Research and Professional Partnerships for 15 years at the Lab School of Washington, Baltimore Division, an independent school for children grades 1-12 with language-based learning disabilities, attentional and executive functioning needs, and social challenges. Prior to that, I worked as a school psychologist in Baltimore City, and in a hospital-based therapeutic day school in Chicago.
I serve as the Lead Psychologist at the Dyslexia Tutoring Program in Baltimore City. I have presented and been a reviewer for the International Dyslexia Association Conference. I have taught at both The Johns Hopkins University and the University of Baltimore. In 2003, the Governor appointed me to the Maryland Advisory Council on Mental Hygiene. I was also appointed to the Special Education State Advisory Committee in 2007 by the Maryland Secretary of Education. I am a founding member of Right to Read Maryland. I am also an accepted "Known Approver" for accommodations for the Secondary Schools Admission Test (SSAT). I am a member of the American Association of Pediatric Neuropsychology, and a Trustee and Board Secretary of the Radcliffe Creek School in Chestertown, MD.
Dr. Oliver has evaluated and served as an advocate for people from an array of schools.
